MALAWIAN REGGAE ARTIST FROM JAMAICA WITH NEW INSPIRATION

A group of Malawian reggae artists who traveled to Jamaica to perform at the Reggae Month celebrations have returned home with unforgettable memories. The artists, including Born Afrikan, Blasto, Don Tarz, Kellie Divine, and Annie Matumbi, were invited by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) through Minister of Labour Vitumbiko Mumba.

Blasto reflected on the experience, saying that performing in the home of reggae has given him a deeper understanding of the genre. "Experiencing the culture first-hand has given me a better understanding of the reggae genre. Seeing how Jamaicans appreciated the work that I do certifies my skill, and I can confidently say I am a reggae and dancehall artist," he said. Blasto also noted that the trip has led to new collaborations that could boost his music career.

Don Tarz praised the Jamaican music industry, saying it is more advanced and organized. "Jamaicans take music as a serious business. Artists are given the value they deserve to fight for spots on international platforms," he said. However, Don Tarz noted that Malawian artists need to build more confidence and undergo proper grooming to reach international standards.

Team leader Annie Matumbi described the experience in Jamaica as "massive" and expressed hope that it would inspire more local artists to pursue international recognition. "More often, we look down on our talents thinking they fall short of international standards. But the truth is that we have something to offer, and we are capable of standing on big stages," said Annie Matumbi.
